Lapindore Brass is a group of Edmonton Symphony Orchestra players who have joined together to play concerts in Edmonton and area. This is their second concert at St. John.

Fall Potluck Supper

Our annual Fall Supper will be Nov. 4th, at 6PM. It is a potluck meal with a free will offering.

Following supper there will be a program from the musical group Gabriel.

It is September again, and in addition to all the harvesting and work on the fields, there are things happening here at St. John:

Weekly Text Study: Every Wednesday at 10AM at St. Matthew’s (10 Miles north), we share a text study, where we look at the upcoming texts for Sunday. Come out and join us!
Bible Study: Once a month we will be having a Bible study here at the Church. The overall topic will be “Where Did the Bible Come From?” Our next study is October 20th at 7PM. We will be talking about the Bible as a whole and how it came to be.
Confirmation: If you have students who are ready to start confirmation this fall, let Pastor Erik know.
SJLW: Our Ladies group meets once a month on the first Thursday at 7PM for study and fellowship.

VBS – Gold Rush: Discovering the Rock of Ages

VBS will be August 8-12, 10AM to 2PM each at Golden Spike this summer. We will be using the curriculum Gold Rush: Discovering the Rock of Ages. Come out and be apart of this great chance to learn and grow together.

SJLC Sermon – Pentecost 5 A

Matthew 13:1-9,18-23

Sermon

This Gospel reading has some important points that this community should consider. For example, most of the fields out there have been planted in nice orderly rows, maybe just scattering seeds at random could be more productive? And what about the ditches and slews? Even the gravel roads could be seeded! There is a lot of missed opportunity that we haven’t been taking advantage of. And if there is some advice to be taken away from this parable today, it is that any ground, no matter how inhospitable has the potential to grow fruit. And not just a little fruit, but a 30, or 60 or 100 fold return.

Perhaps, with a little ingenuity and elbow grease, we could modify a few seeders to just scatter seeds at random and see how it works! Who knows what we could plant? Any volunteers?

Confirmation is coming June 12th – Pentecost Sunday

11 young poeple will be “confirmed” on Sunday June 12th, (they will be sharing their faith stories on June 5th and 12th). Confirmation is a time to celebrate a deepening of faith and participation in the church body. Friends and family are welcome!

…So, when you heard the Gospel lesson today, did you notice that the women didn’t faint?

It is a part of the story that passes by quickly. But when they come to the tomb and the Angel from heaven appears like lightening, the guards… the Roman Soliders, members of the most well trained military force that the world had ever seen, folded like cheap tents. But the women weren’t even afraid. Do you remember that part of the story?

It is a place we know well in our lives. It is where we live. We have heard the story, we have seen the most amazing events, yet we do not know what to think or do…
